High School Design Challenge 2018
Students are challenged to develop a creative solution to an automotive based design problem utilizing CAD/drafting or artistic skills learned in their classes. It also provides an occasion to showcase students’ creativity while fulfilling the state requirement for contest involvement.
Vehicle design is involved with both the technical and esthetics of design, so the Design Challenge offers two categories;
Engineering Design Challenge and the Design Concept Challenge.
- The Engineering Design Challenge will encourage students to consider and design a given product taking into consideration its functionality, material, manufacturing processes, and cost. The final product is presented through an engineering drawing.
- The Design Concept Challenge contestants present a conceptual scheme of a product through a hand drawing/rendering, a graphic computer drawing, and/or model. The student demonstrates originality in their design with an explanation of process.
We also feel that it is important to recognize accomplishment. Winning students and their teachers will be invited to attend our Annual asbe Foundation Awards Dinner as our guests, where cash prizes and Certificates of Recognition are awarded.
